Sweet Nectar Lithophane Night Light, Colored

A hummingbird sipping from flowering branches, in soft garden colors.

A lithophane is a thin panel of real porcelain carved in relief. Unlit, it looks like plain white porcelain. Plug it in and the light shining through the different thicknesses reveals a detailed, almost photographic picture. It's an art form invented in France in 1827, revived and handmade in California.

• Design: Sweet Nectar (colored)
• Style: curved porcelain panel, plug-in night light
• Carved in wax, cast in fine porcelain and kiln-fired at 2300°F; the color is a ceramic glaze fired onto the back
• Comes in a gift box with a short history of the art
