Woodland Sunbeams Lithophane Night Light, Colored
$52.00 USD
Sunbeams stream through a quiet forest. This is one of the best-loved lithophane designs, with soft color glazed onto the back of the porcelain.
A lithophane is a thin panel of real porcelain carved in relief. Unlit, it looks like plain white porcelain. Plug it in and the light shining through the different thicknesses reveals a detailed, almost photographic picture. It's an art form invented in France in 1827, revived and handmade in California.
- Design: Woodland Sunbeams (colored)
- Style: curved porcelain panel, plug-in night light
- Carved in wax, cast in fine porcelain and kiln-fired at 2300°F; the color is a ceramic glaze fired onto the back
- Comes in a gift box with a short history of the art
